The foundation, run by Chappaqua residents Bill and Hillary Clinton, is being questioned by the Justice Department over whether it engaged in any pay-to-play politics while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, according to The Hill.
The FBI has interviewed one witness with more interviews planned, according to The Hill, questioning whether the Clintons promised favors in return for charitable donations.
Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Hillary Clinton, said the probe was disgraceful and a distraction by Republicans.
"Let’s call this what it is: a sham," Merrill said. "This is a philanthropy that does life-changing work, which Republicans have tried to turn into a political football.
"It began with a now long-debunked project spearheaded by Steve Bannon during the presidential campaign. It continues with (Attorney General) Jeff Sessions doing (President) Trump’s bidding by heeding his calls to meddle with a department that is supposed to function independently."
